The formal presentation of study results often requires technical language and citations. The biostatistician will assist in interpreting the study results by writing the text portions of presentations and manuscripts, as well as helping create or creating figures and tables, which pertain to the statistical results. In addition to the formal, statistical language that typically appears in methods and results sections, the biostatistician may also assist in editing discussion sections ensuring that the findings are reported in a manner consistent with the level of the study. For example, the positive findings of an exploratory study with many aims should be presented with less conviction then that of results of a similar magnitude from a highly focused, pre-planned, confirmatory study. This written contribution to presentations and manuscripts is significant, and nearly always warrants co-authorship on the resulting publications.
