Associate/Assistant/Professor Director
of Graduate Degree Program

The University of Kansas Medical Center is seeking a dynamic leader for the emerging Graduate Degree
program within the Department of Biostatistics. We invite you to exercise your talents and qualifications
with this exciting new venture to assist in developing a nationally recognized educational program.

The proposed Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy in Biostatistics are unique to the Kansas City
metro area, the State of Kansas, and the greater region. As Associate/Assistant/Professor Director of the
Graduate Degree Program of the Graduate Degree program in Biostatistics, you would play a crucial role in
this development by capitalizing on the significant strengths of the department faculty, and taking
advantage of various emerging opportunities.

The Department of Biostatistics supports the mission of the University of Kansas Medical Center: “to
create a positive environment for instruction, research, and service.” The degree programs proposed to
be offered at KU Medical Center address the critical shortage of biostatisticians with graduate training,
and their skills are in great demand. Almost daily, new research findings are reported that relate to
human health. Biostatistics has been involved in the education of health professionals since its inception
by providing high quality service courses in biostatistics to a range of graduate, professional, and
postdoctoral, and continuing education students. The demand for individuals with a background in
biostatistics is expected to grow—employment of biostatisticians is projected to increase 9 percent
from 2006 to 2016, as fast as or faster than the average for all occupations.

Position Summary: The Department of Biostatistics at the University of Kansas Medical Center is
seeking an experienced faculty member to help lead the development of a graduate degree program.
The department consists of eight Ph.D. statisticians, and sixteen staff members that include master's
level statisticians, information systems personnel and the administrative personnel. Expertise within the
department includes linear, nonlinear, and longitudinal modeling, clinical trial and experimental design,
survival analysis, categorical data analysis, and Bayesian methodology. This position will require
outstanding teaching and organization skills and the ability to collaborate with medical center
researchers. This is an open level position and level of appointment will be based upon experience and
accomplishments.

Requirements: Ph.D. in Statistics or Biostatistics or related area. Excellent oral and written skills. Ability
to communicate and effectively interact with educators, University personnel, students and scientists.
Experience in teaching graduate level biostatistics courses as well as leading thesis and/or dissertation
committees is required. Preferred requirements include established leader of graduate degree
program. Experience in obtaining external funding for graduate research assistantships. Methodological
expertise that is complementary to the current departmental expertise.
